Volunteer
We are ecstatic about the vast diversity, opportunities, and places in the Greater Houston area. We welcome volunteers of all cultural backgrounds with expertise across disciplines.
While the Director/Founder will facilitate classes on African-inspired creativity, design & making, we want to be a place that invites ALL the interests that children might want to explore.
We are looking for volunteers who are excited to share their expertise, and work with children in a way that honors children’s voices, freedom, joy, playfulness, and exploratory journeys to learning. The learning environment is reminiscent of a playful summer camp, NOT a traditional classroom environment.
Our greatest need, at the moment, is for Volunteers with expertise in practical Mechanical Engineering, who can facilitate classes & projects. Here are examples of class projects we would be interested in: creating rubber band-powered cars/helicopters; making levers & simple machines; simple & compound mechanisms.
Another great need is for Volunteers with expertise in practical Electrical/Electronic Engineering, who can facilitate classes & projects. Here are examples of class projects we would be interested in: using electrical components to make simple helicopters, cars, etc. that move & pair with remote controls; electronics repair.
We are also very interested in Volunteers from African cultural backgrounds with cooking expertise, who have a child-friendly, playful personality, and can lead cooking classes based on their specific African cultural/country background.
That said, we envision a limitless variety of lessons, so please reach out with your area of expertise.
(Here are a few examples: Biology & Zoology; Practical Chemistry & Experiments; Singing (Individual & Choral); Entomology; Human Anatomy; Theater; Musical Theater; African, Contemporary, and other Dances; Parkour; Musical Instruments; Swimming; Tennis; Woodworking; Sculpture; Painting; Drawing ….. the possibilities are endless!)
